4 Uses of Plastic Tanks
Plastic tanks can be used at homes and businesses and have a range of functions, from storing fuel oil to drinking water, depending on the type of tank required. Here, at RPM Fuels and Tanks, we sell a variety of makes and models of liquid storage tanks, from Carbery to Harlequin and Titan. This article looks at four uses of plastic storage tanks:
1200 Litre Non-Potable Water Tank
Water Storage Tanks
Plastic water storage tanks can be split into three categories: tanks for storing potable (drinking) water, non-potable water or rainwater. Harlequin and Titan drinking water tanks are tough and durable and can be used to store liquid for human or animal consumption.
Non-potable water tanks are designed to contain water for industrial, commercial or agricultural use, such as vehicle washing, landscape gardening and irrigation. They can also be used in emergency situations, such as in the event of water restrictions due to a summer drought, or if a property has had a burst water pipe.
Rainwater storage tanks are designed for collecting, storing and reusing rainwater at domestic or commercial properties. They are suitable for a range of uses, from watering the lawn, to filling the paddling pool, and can help reduce water bills.
Bunded or Single Skin Plastic Oil Storage Tanks
Bunded oil storage tanks are built with safety in mind, as they have a strong protective layer around the outside, which is designed to contain any excess oil if the inner tank leaks. There are certain circumstances where a bunded oil tank would be legally required, such as at a building that needs a larger storage tank, or where the oil tank needs to be positioned relatively close to a lake, stream or public water access point, such as a fire-hydrant or manhole cover.
Single skin oil storage tanks are a cheaper option; and, depending the environmental implications of where the tank will be sited (see above), they are suitable for businesses that need a tank with an oil storage capacity of less than 200 litres, or homes that need a tank that can store less than 3,500 litres of oil.
Bunded Diesel and Bunded Biodiesel Fuel Stations
Diesel and biodiesel fuel stations are designed for commercial, industrial or agricultural use and are fully-bunded to prevent any oil leaks. Both types of fuel stations are sold as complete, self-contained units, with a battery or mains operated pump, and need to be positioned on a hard, flat surface for safety reasons.
The difference between diesel and biodiesel fuel stations is the type of fuel it dispenses. Although both types of fuel work in diesel engines, biodiesel is made from vegetable oil or animal fats and is considered an environmentally-friendly alternative to diesel and petrol.
Plastic Waste Oil Tanks
These types of plastic tanks are used by businesses, industries and farms to safely store waste oil and lubricants until the fuel can be collected up and either recycled or disposed of. Waste oil tanks are fully-bunded to help protect the environment, so that even in the event of an oil leak, none of the fuel will spill out from the tank into the surrounding area.
