A bunded oil tank is simply a tank within a tank, with fuel being stored within the inner tank. The reason behind the design is to ensure that there is no fuel loss due to the occurrence of a spill or like for like incident.

A good rule of thumb to follow is if the tank is less than 3500 litres, it should not be placed within 760mm of a combustible boundary e.g. a fence, assuming that there are no flu outlets or buildings between the tank and the boundary.

Condensate is the result of the tank warming up during the day and then cooling at night and will form in any oil storage tank. It is perfectly normal and in single skin oil tanks it will collect in the base of the tank and in bunded oil tanks it may additionally collect between the inner and outer tanks.

There are a number of standards that your oil tank should comply with including the BS EN ISO 9001. All plastic and steel oil tanks should be manufactured to OFTEC, OFS T100 and OFS T200 standards.
